City considering ordinance to make bungalow courts easier to build

The Planning Commission (agenda here) is considering a ordinance that would make it easier for builders to create bungalow courts, groups of individual residences facing a common courtyard. There has been a resurgence of interest in this type of residence, which was popular in the early 1900s. Historic Harding Court, on the north side of Foothill near California, is an example. Details

  1. As we rebuild Altadena, and seek to gently densify neighborhoods and provide housing in neighborhood scale, bungalow courts keep coming up as a great option to help provide a range of housing for renters and those interested in creating family compounds. I think LA County is also looking into allowing this.
