The city is asking for residents' thoughts on a Draft Environmental Impact Report for a proposed five-story mixed-use development at the southwest corner of Myrtle and Olive. The EIR can be reviewed here. Public comments are due by August 18 by email (planning@monroviaca.gov), or by mail to: City of Monrovia - Community Development Department, Attn: John Mayer, Planning Division Manager, 415 South Ivy Avenue, Monrovia, CA 91016
The city reports that the project would be "a five-story building containing 204 residential units, including 20 affordable units, approximately 2,370 square feet of commercial retail space, and 2,782 square feet of indoor fitness center space. It also includes 1.5 levels of underground parking with 329 spaces, public and private open space, and a variety of residential amenities."

DeleteEnough already with new apartments! I’ve noticed an increase in street traffic volume and parking in Trader Joe’s shopping mall. Monrovia is becoming a big, congested City! Dr’s offices are filling up. Not why I came here 27 years ago.

DeleteI think we have more than our allotted new apartment buildings in Monrovia. Our downtown should be a thriving commercial area - not apartment buildings on every corner. The projects below the freeway seem to be more on the empty side than full. It looks awful and now more talk about more apartments - Please!

DeleteI totally agree! Our beautiful town is starting to look overpopulated, and losing the old town feel that people love! Soon there will be nowhere to park anywhere in town! Huntington Dr is already a mini freeway at rush hour! Please build somewhere else, less populated!!

ReplyDeleteDisastrous , zero homer ownership opportunities. Zero additional capacity on roadways to accommodate increase in vehicles. Ridiculous rent prices keeping people living paycheck to paycheck. Least desirable places to live within 25 years. The future projects.

DeleteMonrovia isn’t just another pass-through city. Old Town carries historic, cultural, and civic weight. This project, as proposed, doesn’t respect that. It leverages location without honoring context

ReplyDeleteNo more apartments! The traffic through our city is ridiculous. The strain on resources will peak and they are not affordable to families, which is what Monrovia needs. It’s impossible to have a small town feel with jammed in apartments that are not aesthetically timeless looking. Enough already. Let Monrovia flourish with our downtown and let the building happen elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteEnough already on these residences. We have already lost the great hometown that attracts young families. If you want to improve Monrovia bring affordable housing that young families can afford. I agree with previous comments that the residences being built around the metro station are not even full and way too expensive for young families. Let’s not even talk about the amount of traffic on the streets we have already. Build these somewhere else.

ReplyDeleteI’m very concerned about the proposed 5-story residential complex. Monrovia is already experiencing significant growth, and the rapid addition of high-density housing is beginning to overwhelm our small-town character. What once made Monrovia special — its charm, sense of community, and manageable pace — is being compromised by the increasing number of large apartment developments. I strongly believe we need to pause and carefully consider the long-term impact on infrastructure, traffic, and quality of life before approving more large-scale projects.

ReplyDeleteNo more apartments please. Especially in old town! Avalon is huge enough on Myrtle and chestnut. Is there going to be apartments on every corner like a Starbucks? Monrovia is getting so crowded and expensive. It’s pushing families out and losing the charm and community presence it is treasured for. We don’t need more traffic either. It took six minutes to be able to turn off my street. I left 15 minutes early for an appt 2 miles away and barely made it. Keep our old town charm and feelings of safety - bring in things that keep the sense of community - family- tradition that many from Sierra Madre Arcadia, Monrovia to Duarte respect and nurture. The prices are skyrocketing- the streets are congested in every direction. Let’s not loose our small town feeling and charm more than we have already.
ReplyDeleteI believe we have enough rental units in Monrovia. Are all units at Avalon rented. The rents are too high . I think Myrtle shouldbe kept commercial, many people from other cities visit our retail space and dont need to make Myrtle residential. We have Avalon, Colorado Commons and Paragon as rentals and I think that is enough for our Old Town business district. It would be horrible if Monrovia has too many rentals that sit vacant. Look at the huge community of apartments by the train station. When that complex is completed, the traffic will be even heavier. I say NO to adding a five story apartment building on Myrtle.

ReplyDelete"Build it, and they will come." It is a 'false' presumption. I say, build it but ... as non-rental condominiums and/or townhouses for affordable homeownership. Again, NOT as rentals.

ReplyDeleteI'm definitely opposed to the building of these apartments. I have been a resident in Monrovia since 1983. The traffic from the construction alone will be very disruptive to our community.
