Development firm no longer calling planned apartment complex 'The Monroe'

The development company is no longer calling its planned five-story apartment complex at the southwest corner of Myrtle and Olive "The Monroe," according to Scott Griggs of Blake|Griggs Properties, the project developer. He writes, "We are no longer referring to the project as 'The Monroe.' For now, we are simply calling it 701 S. Myrtle Ave, and a formal name will be decided at a later date."

    3. I honestly couldn't disagree more.

Old Town right now is easily the most vibrant it's been in my lifetime.

And as far as these apartments, they aren't popping up all over the city, they are pretty much all on/just off Myrtle or by the Metro station. Things change, that's just the way of life, and do you really think the strip mall this apartment building will be replacing had "charm"?

The truth is, Monrovia still has a ways to go. There are tons of empty/dying businesses along Foothill (some are great, don't get me wrong) and I would actually love to see more development outside of the main areas the apartments are currently being built in.

Monrovia is an embodiment of the California spirit—at the forefront and always moving forward. Does that mean we don't honor our past? Not at all. We probably have one of, if not the highest number of standing Victorian mansions in LA county, an amazing historical museum, and 90%+ of the residential area in Monrovia is still single-family housing.

I get the traffic issue, and there are definitely things that could be done to alleviate that, but suggesting that this amazing city has lost its charm because of a few apartment buildings is silly and disingenuous.

    5. A lot have, that’s why even with higher population you don’t have enough kids for the schools and they are closing.

Maybe they can tear down the schools for some more high priced apartments

  3. This way we can give the administration bigger raises and make the city even dirtier? Besides not fixing the sidewalks, streets, more bars, raising rates on everything, taxes, and contracting everything out? What not to like about that??
