Helicopter rescue of hiker from Hillside Wilderness Preserve

Here is some video footage of the Sheriff's Department helicopter rescue of a hiker in the Hillside Wilderness Preserve, who - a ranger told me - was suffering from dehydration. According to social media posts, the helicopter took the hiker to Monrovia High School, where he or she was apparently taken to the hospital. Many thanks to Sam Kurutz for sharing this video.

  1. It was a male subj that looked like a possible transient who may have had a mental health emergency.

  2. The Arcadia Fire Department’s weekly activity report for May 18–24 gives a few more details:

    Saturday, May 24
At 9:39 a.m., USAR 106 and Battalion 105 responded to a reported mountain rescue on [t]he Lower Clamshell Truck Trail. Fire personnel arrived to find a 30-year-old male experiencing a mental health crisis. Due to the remote setting, the patient was extracted via a helicopter, received basic life support measures and stabilization en route, and was transported to Huntington Hospital for further treatment.
