Debris Clearance at Canyon Park Begins Monday; Historical Museum Sale; Serving on City Boards; Older American Award; Open City Jobs
~ This coming Monday the city will begin removing debris from Canyon Park. Large bins will be set so fallen limbs and timber, rocks, mud and debris can be separated and hauled away or reused. Over the next two months crews will remove debris while engineers and surveyors begin mapping the park and preparing for construction in early summer.
~ The Monrovia Historical Museum (not to be confused with the Monrovia Historical Society) will host a Treasures from the Collection sale to clear its shelves of some vintage and not-so-vintage items. All proceeds support exhibit development, educational outreach, and historical research. Items sold "as is" and all sales final; buyers must be able to transport their purchases. Monrovia Police: Man Arrested for Mail Theft; Fake SCE Caller; Car’s ID Stolen; Attempted Kidnapping; Kicking All the Cars; Etc.
During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 378 service events, resulting in 70 investigations.
Disturbing Subject
March 17 at 9:32 a.m., an officer was patrolling a park in the 300 block of S. Myrtle when she saw and heard a male adult yelling profanities at two other male adults. The officer contacted the subjects to make sure everything was okay. The officer discovered video of the incident and determined one of the subjects violated a local city ordinance by indulging in profane and threatening language in a public park. The same subject was found to have been shouting racist epithets at the two subjects, in violation of a hate crime. This investigation is continuing.
Mental Evaluation – Subject Evaluated
March 17 at 2:48 p.m., a resident in the 400 block of S. Lincoln called to report a family disturbance between a mother and daughter. The daughter suffers from a diagnosed mental illness and was violent with her mother. Officers determined she needed to be further evaluated by a mental health professional. She was transported to a local facility for treatment.
Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 17 at 11:40 p.m., an officer patrolling the intersection of Ivy and Foothill witnessed a vehicle fail to stop at a red light. A traffic stop was conducted, and further investigation revealed that the driver had been driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and transported to the Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period. She was unable to provide an adequate breath sample and was subsequently taken to a local hospital for a blood withdrawal.

March 18 at 1:24 a.m., an officer on patrol near the intersection of Olive and Ivy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver displayed objective signs and symptoms of intoxication. Further investigation revealed that the driver was driving while under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and transported to a local hospital for a blood withdrawal. She was then transported to the Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.
Mail Theft / Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
March 18 at 4:19 a.m., a resident reported a suspicious vehicle checking mailboxes in the 300 block of Elfwood. Upon arrival officers saw a vehicle matching the description leaving the area. A traffic stop was initiated. As officers spoke with the female driver and male passenger, they could see several mail items between the driver's seat and the center console. The male passenger was uncooperative. The female told officers that the male had her drive him to several locations. She feared he would hurt her if she didn't listen to him; as in the past, he had struck her in the face. The female still had visible injuries to her face. An investigation revealed that the mail inside the vehicle belonged to residents on Elfwood and Starlite. The original caller was also able to identify the vehicle. The male subject was arrested and taken into custody.
Weapon Offence / Warrant – Suspect Arrested
March 18 at 6:16 a.m., a resident in the 100 block of S. Mountain called to report a suspicious subject was in his neighbor's backyard. Officers arrived and located the subject. He was in possession of brass knuckles and also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Vehicle Burglary
March 18 at 8:55 a.m., a victim called to report that while he was shopping at a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain his vehicle was broken into. Officers arrived and determined that several tools had been taken. This investigation is continuing.
Commercial Burglary
March 19 at 4:36 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington regarding an alarm call. Upon arrival they noticed the glass door on the south side of the business was shattered. The cash register drawer was also on the counter. This investigation is continuing.
Court Order Violation – Suspect Arrested
March 19 at 1:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Linwood regarding a disturbing family call. Officers arrived and determined an adult male was in violation of a valid Domestic Violence Protection Order. The subject was arrested without incident and taken into custody.
Phone Scam
March 19 at 12:19 p.m., a caller in the 100 block of Mauna Loa reported he had been scammed by someone impersonating a Sothern California Edison employee over the phone. This investigation is continuing.
Trespass / Mental Evaluation – Suspect Arrested
March 19 at 1:15 p.m., an employee of a bank in the 200 block of S. Myrtle called to report a customer refusing to leave after a transaction could not be completed. Officers arrived and contacted a male adult. The subject was asked to leave by employees and by officers, but he still refused. The subject was arrested for trespassing and was taken into custody. After being released from the jail with a citation the suspect began acting radically and making statements about wanting to hurt himself. It was determined that he needed to be evaluated by a mental health professional and he was subsequently transported to a local facility for treatment.
Runaway Juvenile / Battery on an Officer / Attempt Robbery – Suspect Arrested
March 19 at 8:18 p.m., officers responded to a youth home in the 100 block of N. Ivy regarding a juvenile wanting to leave the facility without permission. The subject forced her way out of the facility and tried to take the counselors cell phone by force. The runaway was seen by officers walking on the street. Officers went to detain the juvenile, but she began striking the officers, pulling one's hair and biting her. She kicked one officer on the head during the struggle on the ground and scratched him. The officers sustained minor injuries. The juvenile was arrested and taken into custody.
Vehicle Burglary
March 20 at 5:02 p.m., a victim reported her vehicle was broken into while parked in the 200 block of E. Maple. Officers arrived and determined that her wallet had also been stolen. The suspect appeared to have forced entry by smashing the driver's side rear window. This investigation is continuing.
Welfare Check / Mental Evaluation – Subject Evaluated
March 21 at 10:17 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of W. Maple regarding a subject who had been repeatedly calling dispatch and the watch commander all morning. The subject was complaining about incidents that occurred with other city’s police departments and would use profanity towards the dispatchers and watch commander. Officers were able to make contact with him and it was determined he was a danger to himself and needed to be evaluated by a mental health professional.
Stolen Plate / Grand Theft Auto
March 21 at 4:14 p.m., a subject came into the lobby to report a call from a towing company stating his vehicle was going to be placed on lien sale if he didn't come get it. The vehicle had been marked for a parking violation and ultimately towed due to that violation. He didn't understand because he still had the vehicle they were describing. He checked his vehicle and noticed that a different license plate was now attached. Further investigation revealed that the plate on his vehicle belonged to another vehicle in Arcadia. The original vehicle at the tow yard was discovered to be stolen out of Arcadia. The vehicles were updated and new paperwork was completed. This investigation is continuing.
Runaway Juvenile / Sexual Battery
March 21 at 4:40 p.m., an employee in the 100 block of N. Ivy reported that a juvenile female just left the location without permission. The officer arrived and spoke to the employee who also told her about a possible sexual battery that occurred between the runaway and another female juvenile. The officer took a report and entered the juvenile into the missing person’s system. This investigation is continuing.
Warrant / Attempt Grand Theft Auto – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 5:09 a.m., a service worker from a car dealership in the 1400 block of S. Mountain called to report a male subject walking around the rear lot and entering a dealership vehicle. Officers arrived and detained the suspect in the rear lot. The suspect was inside the vehicle attempting to get it started. While officers were searching the suspect, they discovered he had a dealership key. Further investigation revealed the suspect was loitering near the dealership earlier during business hours and stole the key from the manager's office. The suspect was trying to locate the vehicle that matched the key. The suspect was also found to have a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested for attempt grand theft auto and per the authority of the warrant and taken into custody.
Domestic Violence / Attempt Kidnapping – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 12:17 p.m., a victim in the 500 block of E. Walnut called saying her ex- boyfriend came by and took her cell phone. He then got into his car and left, but came back later. She was outside and he ran up to her, grabbed her, and carried her to his vehicle. While she was trying to yell, he covered her mouth with his hand. As he was trying to put her in the front seat of his vehicle, she was able to get away and ran. He then left the area. He later came into the Police Department to talk to the officer and was subsequently arrested.
Disturbing Subject – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 12:40 p.m., an employee from the 300 block of S. Myrtle called to report a transient who has been frequenting the location, had a bag blocking the walkway to the entrance. He was asked to move it and he refused. Officers arrived and asked him to remove it and he still refused. He was arrested and taken into custody for violating the municipal code prohibiting the blocking of a public access way.
Vandalism – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 1:43 p.m., a witness called saying a male subject was walking near Central and S. Mountain and kicking vehicles parked along the street. He continued to kick vehicles while walking eastbound. The witness continued to follow him until police detained him. The victims vehicles were all located and an investigation revealed he had done approximately $22,000 in damage overall. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Grand Theft
March 22 at 5:19 p.m., the victim called to report he parked his vehicle in the 1600 block of S. Mountain in the morning when he got to work. He returned to his vehicle after work and discovered his catalytic converter had been stolen. This investigation is continuing.
Mental Evaluation – Subject Evaluated
March 22 at 8:26 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of W. Duarte regarding a patient with a mental health disorder who was banging his head on the ground and attempting to enter other patient's rooms. Nursing staff detained the subject in the corner of the room until officers arrived. Officers determined he needed to be evaluated by a mental health professional and had him transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 8:48 p.m., a motorist in the 300 block of W. Huntington called to report they were following a possible DUI driver. The vehicle was stopping in traffic and driving only 3 mph. The witness followed the vehicle to a parking lot, where he was stopped. An investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested for DUI and transported to the Monrovia PD Jail for booking. Based on the .35% breath test collected the driver was in danger of alcohol poisoning, .08% is the legal limit. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Grand Theft Auto
March 23 at 7:17 a.m., a victim called to report her vehicle had been stolen from the 800 block of S. Canyon. Officers arrived and determined that when the victim parked her vehicle, it was locked and the keys were not left inside. When she returned hours later, it was gone. This investigation is continuing.
Injury Traffic Collision
March 23 at 8:43 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Foothill and Fifth regarding a pedestrian who had just been struck by a vehicle. An elderly female was walking out of a local business. As she was crossing the parking lot a vehicle entered off of Fifth and didn't see the female. The vehicle struck the pedestrian causing her to be launched in the air approximately five feet. When she hit the ground, she sustained multiple injuries. She was transported to the hospital for further treatment. The driver was given a DMV re- examination form to make sure they are capable of driving a motor vehicle.

A GoFundMe page posted by Judith Zuniga is attempting to raise $50,000 for stem cell therapy for Frankie Cervantes, a Monrovia High varsity baseball player, who she said suffered a spinal injury in an ATV accident on February 13, 2021.
Zuniga says the "stem cell therapy is NOT covered by insurance. It is still considered a trial treatment. Frankie will get a total of four infusions and a spinal tap directly into the spine every three months.... The cost for stem cell treatment starts at $50,000 dollars."

Six-year-old Kahna is a playful cat who dashes after her toys (which include balls, socks, and even toilet paper tubes!). She’s very dexterous and will retrieve her toys from hard-to-reach places. Kahna loves sitting in chairs, even if you were about to sit there yourself. She enjoys being petted, and especially loves back rubs and chin scratches. She shows her appreciation with lots of purring.
The adoption fee for cats is $100. All cat adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines.
New adopters will receive a complimentary health-and-wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as a goody bag filled with information about how to care for your pet.

Unveiling of Almera Romney Neighborhood Treasure
About 85 people — city and school officials, family of Almera Romney, former students, and the public, gathered in front of the Canyon Early Learning Center Saturday morning to unveil the latest neighborhood treasure in honor of Romney.
As principal of the segregated Huntington School (no longer existing), Romney fought discrimination to give all students an equal education.

There are two City Council seats on the ballot. The two candidates with the most votes will be elected. If Councilmember Shevlin is elected Mayor and takes office, there would be a vacancy in her seat on the City Council. The new City Council would be required to follow Government Code Section 36512 to determine how to fill the remainder of the vacant City Council term.
So, if Councilmember Becky Shevlin is elected mayor her council seat would be vacant and the council would then select someone to fill it.

March 10 at 9:49 a.m., a victim in the 600 block of S. Monterey reported that she was scammed out of approximately $2,000 by a suspect pretending to be an eBay support representative. This investigation is continuing.

March 10 at 10:10 a.m., a scam was reported in the 100 block of El Nido. The victim stated that she was scammed out of approximately $15,000 between cryptocurrency and gift card purchases. This investigation is continuing.
Grand Theft
March 10 at 9:32 p.m., officers responded to a hotel in the 900 block of W. Huntington regarding the theft of a safe from one of the hotel rooms. The victims told staff that someone gained entry into their hotel room and stole the safe, which contained cash and a Rolex watch. When staff informed them that they would call the police, the guests stated they did not want the police to respond. The victims’ statements were inconsistent and they said they did not desire prosecution. However, the hotel did desire prosecution for the stolen safe. Officers checked the room and saw that the safe, which was bolted down, was removed. There were no signs of forced entry. This investigation is continuing.

March 11 at 9:32 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Mayflower and Central when he saw a motorist make a traffic violation. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was contacted. It was learned that the driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody.

March 11 at 12:31 p.m., while patrolling a park in the 1600 block of S Myrtle an officer saw a subject was in passion of drug paraphernalia. He detained the subject and also discovered he was in possession of a baton. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.

March 11 at 3:38 p.m., a resident in the 500 block of E. Olive called to report that the catalytic converter to his vehicle was stolen sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

March 11 at 3:51 p.m., a resident in the 100 block of N. Myrtle called to report that there was a male transient sleeping on her porch. Officers arrived and contacted the subject. He was drunk and could not care for his safety. He was arrested and transported to the Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

March 11 at 9:11 p.m., a reporting party at a restaurant in the 400 block of W. Huntington said she parked her vehicle at the location and went inside. When she returned she noticed her purse had been stolen from inside her secured vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

March 11 at 10:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of 600 W. Huntington regarding a male subject acting strange and trying to gain entry to a closed business. They contacted the subject and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Court Order Violation – Suspect Arrested
March 11 at 10:24 p.m., yelling was reported at a residence in the 200 block of E. Lime. A 911 call was also received from a male adult stating he needed help at the location. Officers arrived and found a male subject sitting on the porch. The subject is restrained from the location by a court order. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Burglary
March 11 at 10:39 p.m., residents in the 900 block of Wildrose called and reported their house had been broken into. The suspects gained entry to the rear yard by climbing over the wall of the wash. They climbed up a rain gutter and forced entry to the residence by breaking a window. The location was ransacked and numerous items were stolen. This investigation is continuing.
Sexual Battery – Suspect Arrested
March 11 at 11:42 p.m., several calls were received regarding a male subject in the 600 block of S. Myrtle who placed his hand up a female’s dress. Officers arrived and detained a suspect. The suspect’s hand reached up the female’s skirt while she was at the bar. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

March 12 at 12:22 a.m., while investigating a separate event in the 600 block of S. Myrtle, an officer saw a vehicle drive by at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of N. Myrtle and the driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken into custody.

March 12 at 9:08 a.m., a driver in the area of California and Evergreen was cut off, which caused him to swerve and collide into a light pole. The driver received visible injuries to his head and arm. He was treated at the scene by Monrovia Fire Department.

March 12 at 10:50 a.m., a caller in the 700 block of E. Huntington reported his vehicle's car door had been smashed overnight. This investigation is continuing.

March 12 at 2:48 p.m., a victim in the 700 block of W. Lemon said she had been scammed into buying $40,000 worth of crypto from a Facebook page. This investigation is continuing.

March 12 at 3:10 p.m., a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington called to report a grand theft from the day before. Video surveillance was obtained. This investigation is continuing.

March 12 at 3:31 p.m., a caller in the 200 block of W. Colorado reported someone had stolen her identity and hacked into her bank account. This investigation is continuing.
Drug Offense and Weapon Offense – Suspect Arrested
March 12 at 5:50 p.m., an officer pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation in the area of Myrtle and Camino Real. The driver was contacted which revealed he was on probation for dangerous drugs. Consent was given to search his vehicle, even though the driver had search conditions. The officer located a loaded handgun in the driver's waistband. A vehicle search revealed a large amount narcotics and over $6,000 in cash. The driver was arrested for the loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number, and possession of drugs for sales & transportation.

March 12 at 6:04 p.m., a young female driver stated she suffered a medical emergency while driving in the area of Mountain and Huntington. The driver side swiped one vehicle and rear ended another vehicle that was stopped for a red light, causing a chain reaction of collisions into two other vehicles. Two drivers were transported to the hospital for complaint of pain. All other parties were treated at the scene.
Grand Theft
March 12 at 10:35 p.m., a victim in the area of Foothill and Mauna Loa called to report someone removed his catalytic converter from his 2004 Honda Accord while parked on the street. No suspect(s) were seen or heard. This investigation is continuing.
Public Intoxication and Battery on a Police Officer – Suspect Arrested
March 12 at 10:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 900 W. Huntington when a citizen called to report a male subject struck her vehicle's window while she was stopped in the middle of the street. Officers responded and located the subject who ran. Officers located the subject. When the subject was handcuffed he kicked an officer. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.
Robbery
March 12 at 11:07 a.m., a robbery was reported in the area of May and Foothill. During the investigation, officers learned that the victim was at an ATM on Myrtle when two male adult suspects approached him and pointed a handgun at him. The suspects demanded his money, phone, ear pods, jacket and shoes. The victim complied and fled on foot. While running, the victim heard several gunshots but he did not stop running. Officers checked the area and located three bullet casings in the area parking lot. No one was hit. The detective bureau was notified. The investigation is continuing.
Drug Offense and Warrant Arrest – Suspects Arrested
March 14 at 2:46 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of Canyon and Prospect. The driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. A search of the vehicle and further investigation revealed the passenger was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Both occupants were cited and released in the field.
Drug Offense and Resisting Arrest – Suspects Arrested
March 14 at 2:50 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of 600 N. Canyon when he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The male subjects inside the vehicle started to argue with the officer and refused to roll down the windows and provide identification. A sergeant and additional units responded to assist. After several minutes of trying to persuade the occupants to exit the vehicle, officers arrested the driver for resisting arrest. The passenger was arrested for numerous outstanding warrants and possession of methamphetamine. Both suspects were booked and cited out.
Unlicensed Driver
March 14 at 12:47 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code near the intersection of Foothill and Canyon. Investigation revealed the driver was unlicensed. The driver was issued a citation and released at the scene.
Non Injury Traffic Collision
March 14 at 1:11 p.m., a traffic accident was reported in the 900 block of W. Duarte. The driver of an Amazon vehicle was trying to drive down a narrow driveway and hit the corner of the building. Minor damage to both the vehicle and structure.
Fraud
March 14 at 3:58 p.m., a victim in the 100 block of N. Myrtle came into the lobby and said on Saturday she received a call from someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer and that she had warrants for her arrest. She was told that instead of being arrested, she could just pay the fine in gift cards over the phone. The victim bought gift cards and gave them approximately $28,900 in gift cards. She realized it was a scam when she went to the station in Los Angeles to get paperwork stating she is cleared of all charges and they advised her she had been scammed. This investigation is continuing.
Burglary
March 14 at 1753 hours, a resident in the 1200 block of S. Alta Vista called to say his garage had been broken into while he was at the store. He said he doesn't know how the suspect(s) gained entry because he had locked the garage. He saw that his bike was missing. This investigation is continuing.
Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
March 15 at 3:54 a.m., a domestic violence was reported in 200 block of W. Scenic. A couple was drinking alcohol and started to argue. During the argument, the male assaulted the female. The male was arrested and taken into custody.
Vehicle Burglary
March 15 at 4:31 a.m., officers responded to the area of Fifth and Chestnut regarding a male suspect attempting to break into a vehicle. The suspect fled on foot prior to police arrival. Officers located a vehicle with a broken window in the 900 block of W. Walnut. The inside of the vehicle was ransacked, but nothing was taken. This investigation is continuing.
Grand Theft Auto
March 15 at 2:38 p.m., an employee of a business in the 200 block of Railroad walked outside the business to where he had parked his vehicle on the street, but his car was gone. He did not give anyone permission to take his car. Officers searched for the vehicle, but could not locate it. The vehicle was entered into the DMV Stolen Vehicle System.
Shoplifting / Restraining Order Violation / Drug Offenses – Suspects Arrested
March 15 at 3:53 p.m., a shoplifting was reported in the 500 block of W. Huntington. An adult male and female left the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise they did not pay for. Officers located the suspects and the stolen property, which was returned to the store. The male suspect had an active domestic violence restraining order to stay away from the female suspect. The female suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Both were arrested and taken into custody.
Recovered Grand Theft Auto
March 15 at 8:56 p.m., a police helicopter called to report a LoJack hit on a stolen vehicle in the area of Jeffries & Treelane. Officers responded to the area for a search. Officers located the vehicle at Wyland & Jefferies and it was returned to the owner.
Drug Offense – Suspect Arrested
March 15 at 11:45 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of Parkrose and Bloomdale. A computer search revealed the driver was on parole. Officers searched the vehicle and recovered two pounds of marijuana. The suspect was arrested.
Vehicle Burglary
March 16 at 9:08 a.m., a victim in the 300 block of W. Colorado called to report the window to his vehicle had been smashed. Two bikes were stolen. This investigation is continuing.
Disturbing Subject – Suspect Arrested
March 16 at 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Huntington regarding a male transient who was yelling at people in the area and urinating in front of the location. Officers arrived and recognized the subject from numerous prior contacts. As they approached him, he walked towards them in an aggressive manner, cursing at them, and spit at an officer. He was arrested for spitting on the officers and a private person arrest was completed for the female victim that witnesses him urinating and exposing himself. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Drug Activity – Suspect Arrested
March 16 at 10:15 a.m., an officer was flagged down by a citizen in the area of Magnolia and Olive stating a subject was trying to smash a window on a vehicle. The officer arrived and saw a subject standing outside the vehicle with an object in his hand. He dropped the object and was contacted by the officer. The vehicle turned out to be his and he was trying to break the window to get inside. The item he dropped was a glass pipe commonly used for smoking drugs. A search of his person revealed he was in possession of an additional glass pipe and a methamphetamine. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Injury Traffic Accident
March 16 at 4:24 p.m., officers responded to area of Magnolia and Foothill on a report of a traffic accident. Two vehicles had collided in the intersection. Two of the occupants complained of pain and had visible injuries. One was treated at the scene by paramedics and the other was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Prowling / Resisting Delaying Officer – Suspect Arrested
March 16 at 4:50 p.m., a resident in the 100 block of N. Fifth said an unknown subject looked in her window and was now in her backyard. Officers located the subject at Lincoln and Hillcrest. The subject ran and as officers were running after him, one officer slipped on some gravel and fractured his ankle. The subject continued to run and was eventually apprehended. He was arrested, transported to the station and booked. He was arrested.
Mental Evaluation
March 16 at 11:09 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Monrovista regarding a female off her medication. The subject was turning neighbors electrical off and running their water. She was yelling, banging on garage doors and disturbing residents. Further investigation revealed she was a danger to herself. She was transported to a hospital and placed on a 72 hour evaluation.

Stephen Grollnek for Mayor
After 33 years we finally have a chance to rid ourselves of the local cartel. Fight the lying, cheating, and stealing, elect an outsider. I am an honest businessman and long-time resident of Monrovia. I stand for honesty and high visibility in leadership.
Over-development in Monrovia has made a few rich while slowing draining the city of it's quaint home-spun image. So called low income housing which is really hugely over priced has contributed to on-street parking problems as well as over crowding in some areas. New hotels and high rise buildings have become the norm in Monrovia. This is great for the political elite as it enables them to have their beachfront home in Mexico but robs the city of it's charm.
The Friday night street fair is nothing more than a lowly swap meet. Over-priced meals on Myrtle Avenue that few of the local folks can afford, a ghastly pawn shop in the middle of Old Town, are all signs that our city is moving in the wrong direction.
The Shadow endorses Mr. Grollnek for mayor. The perennial candidate for 24 years, already called 'Mr. Mayor' by many. Let’s make it a reality.
