A Moment in Monrovia History: Early days at the Monrovia Post Office

Here is the Monrovia Post Office in early days. The man at left is Frank Zimmerman, longtime Postmaster at Monrovia (Assistant Postmaster in 1908). Sitting on countertop is Postmaster Charles H. Anson (Postmaster from 1904-1914). The post office was in the 600 block of S. Myrtle. From the Myron Hotchkiss collection. See full details here.

Planned 5-Story Apartment Complex to be called 'The Monroe'

The five-story apartment complex planned for the southwest corner of Myrtle and Olive will be called, "The Monroe," and in addition to having 204 apartments (20 set aside for lower income renters), it will also have 2,370 square feet of commercial space, a dog park, courtyard, and rooftop deck. It will be built by Blake Griggs Development. Details.

Monrovia-based Trader Joe's to open 30 new stores

Monrovia-based Trader Joe's markets is growing. Its "Opening Soon" web page indicates it plans to open 30 more stores nationwide, three more in Southern California but most along the east coast. Details. (Click "Opening Soon").

Local stuffed animals star in film at Library, July 26

Local stuffed animals take the spotlight in a film premiere at the Library on Saturday, July 26, from 2 to 3 p.m. Children who participated in June’s photo shoot will see their toys star in a special movie screening. All are welcome. Snacks provided; participants receive a miniature Oscar. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Details.

Meet live animals like a macaw, owl, or armadillo at Jr. Animals From Around the World, presented by the Wildlife Learning Center, on Thursday, July 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room. Monrovia foundation to hold online auction starting Monday, July 21

The Monrovia Parks, Wilderness, and Recreation Foundation will hold its summer auction from Monday, July 21 to 27, featuring more than 100 items, including BBQ ribs from City Manager Dylan Feik and home-baked cakes from Mayor Becky Shevlin.
