A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a northbound Metro A Line train near Monrovia Station at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. The person’s condition was unknown, and Monrovia police are investigating. Details here.

Pasadena Humane waives adoption fees Aug. 29 for 'Clear the Shelters' event
Pasadena Humane, which serves Monrovia, is participating in the annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign with a special event on Saturday, Au. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when adoption fees will be waived for all animals - dogs, cats, and other critters. The adoption fee for dogs is $150. All dog adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines.

New adopters will receive a complimentary health-and-wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as a goody bag filled with information about how to care for your pet.

A new video history of the Monrovia Airport has been released
This new video by the Monrovia Historical Society gives “A Brief History of the Monrovia Airport.” The airport was a block south of Huntington on the east side of Shamrock. The video was produced by Dennis Sanchez for the society's online Legacy Project.

Monrovia Historical Society adds 1776 photos and documents to its online Legacy Project
The Monrovia Historical Society's Legacy Project has added a patriotic 1776 more historic photos and documents, bringing its online collection to 17,000 items. Most came from former City Historian Steve Baker’s personal collection, with additional materials from the Monrovia Historical Museum. The site recorded 47,000 searches last year. Leadership Academies return this fall; registration open
Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) is hosting adult and youth leadership academies this fall, a seven-week program designed to build informed community leaders. The Adult Leadership Academy meets Thursday evenings, Sep. 17 through Oct. 29, 7 to 9 p.m., at various city facilities. The Youth Leadership Academy is open to students in grades 6 to 12 and meets Wednesday afternoons, Sep. 16 through Oct. 28, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Registration is open, here. Trader Joe's plans to rebuild its headquarters on Shamrock
The city has received a pre-application for redevelopment of Trader Joe's corporate headquarters at 800 S. Shamrock Ave. The proposal calls for demolition of the existing building and parking lot and construction of a two-story headquarters totaling approximately 95,969 square feet, plus a parking structure. The headquarters would continue to house Trader Joe's national offices, including administrative space, training facilities, and a tasting kitchen. The project is in the early stage and residents will have opportunities for public input, including a neighborhood meeting. Details.
