Robbery
On November 14 at 2:55 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 600 block of South Myrtle regarding a grand theft incident. The female victim was inside a business and was holding jewelry in her hand. The suspect entered the location and grabbed the jewelry from the victim's hand, taking it by force. The suspect then left the location on foot, heading southbound on Myrtle. An area check was made, but the suspect was not located. The suspect is described as a heavyset male, unknown age, wearing jean shorts and a gray hooded sweatshirt. The investigation is continuing.

Battery / Trespassing
On November 15 at 8:54 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of East Pomona Street on the report of a battery and trespassing incident. The resident reported that he had discovered a male subject sleeping on the west side of his house in his front yard. He yelled at the subject to get off his property several times. The male subject was not leaving the property, so the resident sprayed water at him from a garden hose. The subject became angry and hit the resident in the face with his fist, causing a small cut to his nose. The subject ran west on Pomona and out of sight. Officers made an area check for the suspect, but were unable to locate him. He is described as a male Hispanic, 18-20 years old, 5’4” tall, medium build, wearing a black Los Angeles Dodgers cap, black shirt and brown shorts. The investigation is continuing.

During the investigation, the male subject was trying to interfere with the officers and refused to comply with officers’ commands. He continued to walk away from the officers and struggled with the officers as they attempted to detain him. The male subject was arrested for obstructing and delaying a peace officer.

Trespassing
On November 16 at 9:17 a.m., police received a call from a resident in the 100 block of East Pomona reporting a burglary suspect inside his residence. The property owner was out front when officers arrived, but the suspect had fled. The resident left the property for a short time in the morning, and when he returned home, he found the subject in a bedroom closet. The residence is under construction and appears vacant from the outside. The owner of the residence is staying in a back bedroom on the property, but the rest of the residence is empty. The resident had found the same subject sleeping on his property on November 15; see above battery/trespassing incident. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 18-20 years old, wearing dark shorts and a dark shirt. The investigation is continuing.

Monrovia Council Will Consider Moratoriums on Home Demolition and Construction Permits

At its Nov. 18 meeting (agenda: http://goo.gl/7MnsQI ) the Monrovia City Council will consider ...

~ Establishing a 45-day moratorium "prohibiting the demolition or structural alteration of any main building on a property in the city constructed prior to January 1, 1940, while the City undertakes a comprehensive advanced planning process for the preservation of neighborhood character." http://goo.gl/o47Eyz

~ Establishing a 45-day moratorium "prohibiting the issuance of permits for the construction of new residential dwellings or specified substantial additions to residential dwellings and accessory structures, while the City undertakes a planning process to analyze techniques that can be implemented to preserve neighborhood character." The staff report says the logic of this is that: "Neighborhood character can be diminished each time a new dwelling is constructed to be significantly larger than other homes in the neighborhood." http://goo.gl/ifopbf

Lunch at Mikomi Japanese Restaurant

Lunch at Mikomi Japanese restaurant, just south of the theater on Myrtle. Busy at lunch time and nice atmosphere. Got the, ahem, Yo, Sexy Sexy roll ($12.95) and an iced tea ($2.50). Came with very nice miso soup. The roll has yellowtail, avocado and fried jalapeño. Not exactly authentic but if it tastes good I say phooey on authentic. Anyway, roll was very good, as was the food I snitched from the other plates at our table. Service good, too.
