Blood Moon Rising - Tonight

Beginning at 7:11 tonight Monrovians (and lots of others) will be able to see a rare astronomical sight, a super blood moon eclipse. This involves a super moon (when the moon is closest to earth it appears larger) and a total eclipse in which the moon will appear a rusty red (because of sunlight filtering through our atmosphere and reflecting off the moon). It is also the final in a "tetrad," series of four eclipses occurring at six-month intervals. I believe this will begin just as the moon is rising tonight. http://goo.gl/OhWTtA

Celebrate the Arts at Library Park

A very nice art show in Monrovia's Library Park today. I really like the chalk art. Also, I won a book from the Coffee House Writers Group because I knew the answer to a deep literary question: What was the name of Dick and Jane's dog? (If nobody knows the answer I'll post it soon. )

Anyway, the Authority is considering several alternative routes through the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and wants to do some boring to evaluate the feasibility.

So, the US Forest Service is asking for the public's comments on the matter. If you have thoughts, they may be sent by mail or e-mail to: Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, Attn. George Farra, 701 N. Santa Anita Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91006 or e-mail to gfarra@fs.fed.us Subject: HSRA GI. But get your comments in by October 23 of this year.

Dinner at Hon Sushi

Dinner last night at Hon Sushi, in the Pavilions shopping center at Foothill and Myrtle. I got the Las Vegas Roll ($9.99) and a beer ($4.95, happy hour price). I'm thinking maybe the roll was not entirely traditional Japanese, but it was very tasty! Service quick and friendly.
