  1. Not impressed by this choice..don't the council do a background check? Especially when he was employed by Rosemead..

    1. I agree. I was employed there at City Hall in Rosemead while all this corruption was going on. I cannot believe the City of Monrovia and all its citizens trust this suspect who was never brought to justice. Do you not believe in doing background checks thoroughly?! Just because he wasn't convicted doesn't mean he is innocent. And just because he laughs annoyingly loud and childlike does not mean he is as innocent as a child.

  2. It is so sad to see when people continue the ignorance of bad gossip and base their opinions and judgements on heresay. Don't listen to gossip, see and judge for yourselves in evaluating a person. Move on. This individual is full of energy and accomplishment, if you want to get things done in your community, he will make it happen!

    1. This isn't hear say..I know this for a fact. He was best buddies with John Tran who was convicted in the bribery scandal AND Chi and another coworker were investigated. They were all booted out of Rosemead and lucky not to be in prison. Why would Monrovia even consider him. Full of energy? Accomplishment? No...maybe taking over $300,000 in a buy out package and then filing for unemployment. Nice for the taxpayers of my city..Rosemead. You want a party boy as City Manager..then you got him.

    2. That's very unusual that a political figure such as a mayor would be so closely involved in the operations of the organization such as development. This is just another good example of why councils should let the staff do their jobs and they must do their jobs...vote. It seems to me that if he were investigated and was eliminated from wrong doing, well then did you think that maybe he was in a hard position, one that many city managers that have councils that want to run city business have.

    3. It may have been unusual, but ask Rosemead. It happened and his two co workers were also named in a pending law suit. It was dropped when Tran pleaded. They wined, dined and partied. All on Rosemeads dime. Not what Monrovia needs,

  3. Fired as City Manager in Rosemead, caught up in a bribery scandal in which Chi's predecessor was sentenced to a prison term; short - lived stints in Claremont and Barstow and a dubious track - record in terms of effectiveness; I think his checkered past, his lack of maturity and callowness speak for themselves. Chi was not the best choice and we will rue the day he was brought into our community.

    1. Barstow city hall staff is thrilled to death to see him go! He initially fooled a lot of people with his good PR skills. A reorganization that bought him a lot of yes men that are not qualified for the positions they were handed and it is now showing! The IT person is their human resources manager! Hilarious.

  5. The City of Barstow Staff is not thrilled to see him go! Except for one or two that do not want to work, but just want to sit on their rears. Monrovia, if you do not want him, the City of Barstow will keep him for good! You should have picked someone that is boring, less controversial, and someone who does not care about a good work ethic, morals, and just getting the right thing done. If you do not like the noise, please send him back, we love the noise of Oliver Chi in Barstow!

  6. It's time to speak to my elected council members. It's pretty obvious Mr. chi's PR campaign is still robust. I live here and I care about my city. He is the wrong choice.

  7. Tonight is your last chance Monrovia. Tonight is the city council meeting. Show up in force and say NO! to the appointment of Oliver Chi as City Manager. His record speaks for itself. Facts are facts. He is a terrible choice that should make you question the motives of the city council. Take a stand now or pay a costly price for a LONG time.

  8. We need to put new people on the Barstow City Council so we NEVER get Oliver Chi back.
