Would Plastic Bag Ban Affect Monrovia's Foothill Unity Center?

Monrovian Charlotte Shamadan writes in her Weekly Star column that Monrovia's Foothill Unity Center "relies on donated plastic bags for packing the weekly food distribution for needy families." (The proposed plastic bag ban will come back before the Monrovia City Council at its next meeting, this coming Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. http://goo.gl/li8CxH)

  1. How about instead of finding ways to hurt business in Monrovia we focus on a real issue like doing something about the traffic clogging Canyon and Ridgeside on weekend's with all these people visiting canyon park

  2. My understanding is that a plastic bag ban would prevent new plastic bags from being distributed with groceries and other goods. Existing ones (of which there are more than enough) would be able to be used by places like the Foothill Unity Center. That IS recycling.

I don't understand the hangup about getting rid of plastic bags. If they'd never been invented, we'd be using our own bags like people did for years, and our clean(er) planet would be in that much better shape. What's the big deal? Just bring your bags inside the store.
