Monrovia to Consider Agreement with Employees: 3% Cost of Living Increase, Etc.

At its July 17, 7:30 p.m. meeting, the Monrovia City Council will consider, among other things (agenda here: http://goo.gl/2TyPZ ), adopting an agreement with the Monrovia Municipal Employees' Association for fiscal years 2012-2014.

The city report says that "compensation adjustments are [now] based solely on the City's ability to pay" and not on what other cities are paying.

Summary:

"The proposed two-year agreement provides for a 3% Cost of Living adjustment and reinstatement of the performance/longevity program. Additionally, MMEA members have agreed to pay an additional 5.5% of salary towards the cost of retirement benefits, resulting in a total contribution amount of 9.946%. These changes will take effect during the first year of the agreement. The second year of the agreement does not include any further adjustments to salary or benefits."

  1. I guess Monrovia has extra monies to give away - city is giving a cost of living increase in this economy? Must be a strong union -

  2. Wake up they are only getting a little over 300 dollars paid to their health benefits. That has to be the lowest any city pays to their employees. And if you look at administration some get a full ride on health benefits. I'm sorry my loaf of bread still costs the same as theirs. Their pay is not up to par with their responsibilities. Administration, fire, and the PD is who really needs to take a big hit!!! Watch next year the PD and fire contracts are up, we'll see what happens then.

  3. That's nothing. Wait and see what happens when the fire and p.d. negotiate next year, you'll see who the real monster is. The administrators, police, and fire are the one's who are sinking the city. It's their pensions and wages that are too much.
