Lunch at Mediterranean Kabob Room

Lunch a few days ago at the Mediterranean Kabob Room on Myrtle. Got a Gyro plate. Came with a nice garden salad. I didn't realize gyros were made of lamb, and I'm not a lamb fan. But with the nice sauces and hummus it was just fine. About $11 with ice tea and tax.

  1. I’d like to comment on your “lunch at Kabob Room” – there are 3 Mediterranean restaurants in Monrovia. Garden Grill, The Patio & Kabob Room. Having eaten at all three, I can say that Garden Grill is the best for ambiance and their hummus is the best of the three. The dining room is a ‘garden’ with the ceiling covered in grape vines with very nice ceiling fans. And the service is superlative. The falafel is the best of the three as it’s not over cooked, still tender in the middle. The Kabob Room with its (2) plates (cheese / hummus) is very good as you can mix / match / replace to your selection. (I personally don’t like the parsley salad, and like that I can get hummus or dolmades instead) As for The Patio, the food is very good, the selection in terms of variety is a bit better than the others, but the service for lunch tends to be slow, but decent. The ambiance is good inside and out, though the outdoor patio which overlooks a parking lot and on occasion, due to the traffic, can be a bit of a bummer. The Kabob Room is ok, the service is good, (though the staff tends to be busy with other things rather than service to the customers) the food is good, the selection is typical and decent, but the best of the three is the Garden Grill. But you should check them all out.

As for Starlight Express, very good food and the lemon chicken is the best, which is surprising for a pocket storefront restaurant. I would give it two thumbs up.
