Company Makes a Bundle on Monrovia's Green Dot Corp.

An investment company in Atlanta (Total Technology Ventures LLC) reports that it put $3.5 million into Monrovia-based Green Dot Corporation and walked away with 60 times as much after nine years. Whew! Better return than my bank account.

Tour New Monrovia High Buildings Friday

If you would like a preview of the construction at Monrovia High School, you can go on a field trip with the Board of Education, along with the architect and builder tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 17) at 4:30 p.m. Meet smack in the middle of Monrovia High. After the tour is the ribbon cutting for the Wildcats Athletic Field at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity football game at 7 p.m.

High School Football

I received a note from Alex Zucco that the new football field will be dedicated this Friday at 5:30 pm. I will be there and hope to see many Monrovian's there for this celebration. It has been a long time coming and should be worth the wait. The home game will follow the field dedication.

Wild Rose School Over 800

Fiberglass Bears

I hear that Monrovia is going to follow the lead of some other cities around the country (Chicago, D.C.) and have a set of decorated fiberglass animals sprinkled around town.

I was at the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts meeting and heard that the city will purchase six 3-4-foot-high bears (a la Samson) and have local artists decorate them. Hopefully the city will find sponsors for six more bears, for an even dozen. The bears will be mounted on concrete bases.

possible Monrovia 9-11 Memorial

Monrovia is looking into the possibility of acquiring a piece of the Twin Towers that were destroyed on September 11, 2001. 1025 communities have received a piece of the Twin Towers steel from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Each of these must also be released by a Federal Judge since this is still crime scene evidence.

I have asked for the help of Congressman Dreier and his staff and will report back on our progress.
