A Moment in Monrovia History: A Thanksgiving with the Monroes in Nome, Alaska, 1901
This 1901 photo captures a Thanksgiving Day group gathered at the home of William and Mary Jane Monroe in Nome, Alaska, where William - Monrovia's main founder - worked to build a railroad. Mary Jane and other family members joined him for several years. The photo comes from an album documenting the Monroe family's time in Alaska before their move to Monrovia. Free community bike ride to evaluate city's bicycle plan, Sep. 12
A free, family-friendly Community Bike Ride and Audit will be held Saturday, Sep. 12, starting at Library Park near the fountain. The approximately 6-mile route, at a pace of 10–12 miles per hour, focuses on streets highlighted in the city's Bicycle Master Plan. Request a free tree for the front of your house
Monrovia's annual tree planting program is open for requests through Friday, Sep. 4. Residents may ask that a tree be planted in the public right-of-way in front of their property at no cost. Council to consider $58 million in bonds for facility upgrades, expanding affordable housing requirements
~ Issuing up to $58 million in bonds to renovate the Community Center, Fire Station 102 (on Myrtle in south Monrovia), and to improve Recreation Park. Measure K revenue would primarily repay the bonds, with annual debt payments estimated at about $4.3 million through 2045. Details here.

Suspect wanders into restaurant where cops are enjoying beef and broccoli - arrested

The guy Monrovia Police had been looking for wandered into the wrong restaurant. Cops were there enjoying some beef and broccoli with a side of chow mein at Panda Express when in walks the guy they'd been hunting, who had escaped them twice before by running onto the freeway. Details.
