The Oaks, the large house built in 1884-1885 for Monrovia founder William Newton Monroe, was recently sold for $2,548,000, well above its asking price of $2,199,950. The house is at 250 N. Primrose Avenue, at Monroe Place, was designed by architect Solon Haas, and originally faced south toward what is now Foothill Boulevard on a lot of more than 200 acres. History here. The home was sold by the real estate firm, KWPasadena.
