In light of the shootings at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, Monrovia schools Superintendent Paula Hart Rodas writes:
“Please know that providing a secure environment for your children is the absolute highest priority at Monrovia Unified. We are continuously evaluating and strengthening our campus security protocols in close coordination with local law enforcement agencies and school security experts. Protecting our schools is not a static goal but an active, daily commitment, and our staff remains thoroughly trained and vigilant to ensure our campuses are safe havens for learning.”
Rodas also said school counselors and mental health professionals are available across all campuses to help students distressed by news of school violence. She urged parents to check in with their children, listen to their worries, acknowledge their feelings and reassure them that adults are working to protect them.
