The city is sharing FEMA's flood-preparation advice as El Niño develops:
- Review insurance now, because most homeowners and renters policies exclude flood damage, and National Flood Insurance Program coverage generally has a 30-day waiting period.
- Clear gutters and drains.
- Save digital copies of important documents, photograph belongings.
- Sign up for alerts and prepare emergency supplies, including for pets.
- Residents downhill or downstream from burn areas should prepare for flash floods and debris flows and follow evacuation orders.
- Never walk, swim or drive through floodwater.
