The History of Monrovia’s Route 66, a 50-minute film by the Monrovia Historical Society and produced by KGEM, premieres Friday, Oct. 16, in the Community Center’s Kay Dalton Room, 119 W. Palm Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m.; screening at 5:30 p.m. Free admission; no reservations required. Popcorn and refreshments provided.
Historical photographs and film footage document the highway’s arrival in 1926, changes to its route, and businesses serving motorists. Featured sites include the Aztec Hotel, the McDonald brothers’ first food stands and the Monrovia Flying Field.
Route 66 experts will answer questions. Displays include a mock-up of McDonald’s Giant Orange and a 1926 Ford truck that has traveled the entire route.
