Playful Nova makes time for fetch and pup cups

Uploaded Image

Meet Nova, a girl who knows how to make the most of a day out! This 5-year-old pittie at Pasadena Humane recently explored Pasadena on a foster field trip, where she charmed everyone she met, enjoyed a stroll around town, and made very important stops for a bakery treat and a coffee shop pup cup (which she loved very much!).

Nova is a happy, playful girl whose smile lights up every space she enters. She loves attention, knows her way around a good game of fetch, and makes an excellent walking companion. Looking for someone to brighten your days and take up a little space in your heart? Nova might just be your girl! In honor of Adopt a Senior Pet Month, her adoption fee is waived all November long. Come meet her today and see what makes her so out of this world!

The adoption fee for dogs is $150. All dog adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines.

Walk-in adoptions are available every day from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. View photos of adoptable pets at pasadenahumane.org.

New adopters will receive a complimentary health-and-wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as a goody bag filled with information about how to care for your pet.

Pets may not be available for adoption and cannot be held for potential adopters by phone calls or email.

A Moment in Monrovia History: Satoru Tsuneishi and His Bride, Sho Murakami, 1913

Satoru Tsuneishi (1888-1987) and his bride, Sho Murakami (1891-1952), pose in this 1913 portrait. Satoru became the first Asian American to graduate from Monrovia High, in 1914, and the couple raised a large family. They farmed strawberries and ran a fruit stand on Route 66 in Monrovia before World War II, and the family was interned at Heart Mountain. Monrovia's newest park, Satoru Tsuneishi Park, is named in his honor. From the Susie Ling collection. See full details here.

Altadena Dairy began in Monrovia

A post on Facebook (which I can't find) said Alta-Dena Dairy, now one of the largest dairies in the world, was founded in Monrovia. Who knew? The Alta-Dena Dairy site agrees. It says (here) that:

"It all started in Monrovia, California by three brothers, Elmer, Edgar and Harold Stueve. With little more than 61 cows and a delivery wagon, they set out to nourish their neighbors with tasty, nutritious milk from cows soaking up the fresh, California sunshine."

The Facebook post says it was named Alta-Dena because Altadena was the first neighborhood it delivered milk to, serving more than 300 homes there.

Ah! Here's the video.
