Representative Judy Chu Confirms Obama Will Make San Gabriel Mountains a National Monument

Representative Judy Chu confirmed today (Oct. 8) that President Obama will declare 346,000 acres of national forest land in the San Gabriel Mountains to be the nation's newest national monument. http://goo.gl/6WuA4u

Two days ago (Oct. 6), Chu distributed a press release titled, "Rep. Chu Continues to Invite Stakeholders to Offer Input on National Monument" http://goo.gl/KqKbyW

Comment: Just two days ago Chu was inviting people to submit input as if she was carefully pondering all viewpoints. But today we learn it is a done deal. Obama is going to sign it and clearly there was no intention to listen to the so-called "input" she solicited two days ago. Further, while there was detail released on her proposed National Recreation Area, I don't think there was any detail released about the scope of this National Monument. Who can tell whether it is good or bad? It was just shoved through.

  1. This whole situation is very disappointing. Sounds like she always had her mind made up and never really cared what we the people she represents want. I've repeated this several times. Do we get our funds back on the land the city purchased? I also assume going forward we will continue paying the bonds that were used to buy the land.

What are the benefits of having them run the land?

  2. I'm am hopeful that the land Monrovia owns is safe because her press release says that the national monument would be comprised of National Forest land, which (I could be mistaken) I don't think includes city land. I hope. If that is the case it could be a question of which federal government agency we want running the land, the Forest Service or the Parks Service. Personally, I'd prefer the Forest Service, but as I wrote, I never saw any sort of detailed proposal.

  3. I don't think the National Monument designation includes our city owned land. This is just the existing National Forest. That was the NRA proposal, which is different. As far as I know.. I could be wrong.

  4. This is Chu's signature career project. Possibly her only one. Obama is paying her back with his approval on this for her support on amnesty for the 20 million illegals in our country. Obama cares nothing about a National Monument in California.
We just received our tax statement and the assessment for that 114 acres in on it.
OUR land gives access in several place to a good portion of the Monument. What good is a monument if one can't access it. That's why Chu has to STEAL it from us. We don't have the funds to fight her in court and she knows it. We'll just give her our property. As Lutz would say ... " Now NOW Children let's be nice. I don't like nor do I trust that woman.
Chu also knows she will be reelected in November. Very sad.

  5. No one is "grabbing" anyone's land...do you know what a National Monument is? Our country is full of them...I'm so sick of the ignorance and hatred spewed everywhere. Guess what?? I'm thrilled! And to our tea party council members..thank goodness you aren't running more than Monrovia.

  6. Wow. Our government shoving something down our throats after pretending to care what the people have to say. I'm shocked.

  7. Robert ... People are so willing to allow government to function outside the processes in place for this type of action and then they attack a citizen for responding to it. What part of Lawlessness don't these people understand? BTW 'Thrilled' above... That Monument that is like all those others throughout this country ... I am "thrilled" as well about it. Seem you are the one not paying attention to what this really is. Peace

  8. Seems like the negative comments are coming from people with a lot of baggage. 8:06 is full of all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories. I'm waiting for more information on what it means. All I do know is that Monrovia City council has been absolutely horrible about managing our wilderness, so to hear them complain about it is laughable. As Mr Parry would say, our city government shoved our wilderness preserve vote down our throats with false promises and 15 years later we still look at unpassable gates..

  9. And 11:04 seems willing to accept baggage stuffed with lies. Each of us has our own way of dealing with issues. Some of us choose to waddle in jaded ignorance and indifference while others choose to speak out against lawlessness at all levels in life.
    Peace 8:06

  11. 9:12am thank you for that information. Why than did Chu even bother to ask for input when she clearly has no intention of listening.

  12. Chu is useless and I don't get why she gets elected. I don't see any advantage of this move that anyone has described, so I guess it is a detriment. We will be lucky if it is just a stunt.

The feds can't manage what they have. I dunno that they should have any more duties or obligations.

That Chu rammed it to us without hearing or due process makes it a DC deal that has nothing to do with what is good for the peasants out here.

    1. The shooting ranges in the designated area will be shut down at the first opportunity. Another blow for progressivism.
