A protest against Representative Judy Chu's plan to have President Obama declare the San Gabriel Mountains a National Monument is being planned for Monday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Chu's field office at 527 S. Lake Avenue in Pasadena. According to a representative of Art Alas, who is running for Congress against Chu, local groups will speak out against the plan and deliver letters of opposition. Among those delivering letters will be the California Trail Users Coalition, Pasadena Bait Club, Public Lands for Public People, SoCal Cycling, Mt. Baldy Lodge, Off-Piste Hikers, Glendora Community Conservancy, San Gabriel Valley Regional Conservancy (SGVRC), and California Off-Road Vehicle Association (CORVA). Source: press release.
UPDATE: Monrovia Councilwoman Becky Shevlin writes to say that, "I, along with Tom Adams and other electeds did sign a letter of opposition" to having the mountains declared a national monument.

Where's the Monrovia five fearless "leaders"? Hiding under their desks I'm sure. Miss Judy scares the hell out of them. I will be there for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe entire council and mayor signed the letter of opposition. Wonder why she just mentions Tom Adams.
ReplyDeleteThe 'signed' letter Mrs. Shevlin references was 'a request to be omitted' from this Federal land grab. The five council members could not just say NO to Chu. Chu has now taken her fight to Obama for his muscle. I remember to photo in the Star News wherein Lutz and Shevlin were in OUR foothills standing on OUR land. Lutz assumed the posture of an Indian Chief gesturing with both arms while shouting aloud "it's all OURS now". Mrs. Shevlin ... Was this all bogus or do WE the people of Monrovia own that property? Put it up for vote. WE will decide if we should or will turn it over to Chu. What say you. My Name is Dan Crandell, resident/tax payer City of Monrovia
ReplyDeleteI too am a resident/taxpayer for the City of Monrovia. If the federal government wants the land we taxpayers paid for they buy it back from us. I have still yet to hear the benefits of having federal govt own the land and why Chu is so adamant about it.
ReplyDeleteJudy Chu is a weak link in Congress. She makes a no waves in the Big House, She has to look for things to do and this land controlled grab is her pet project. She is a manipulating self-serving bully who strong arms to get what she wants in life and government . Our city council is afraid of and yet smitten with her,
ReplyDeleteDemocracy is a beautiful thing to watch in action when several hundred determined citizens turn out in near 100 degree heat to express their Constitutional right to stand up to defeat Federal Government abuses of power/authority. The message was clear ..."No National Monument" in OUR San Gabriel's. BTW ... I looked for a Monrovia Representative and none were seen. However Glendora and Arcadia Mayors were there to support those communities.
