Hazardous waste collection June 7 at Citrus College


Free hazardous waste collection for toxic household items for items such as paint, used oil, car batteries, e-waste, and pharmaceuticals. Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Citrus College’s Stadium Parking Lot. Limit: 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. Some items, including tires and appliances, not accepted. Trash rates going up July 1


Trash rates go up starting July 1: 4.005% for Athens Services, in accord with the city's contract with the company, plus 3% more for residences and 7% more for businesses, to comply with SB 1383, which requires cities to divert organic waste.

Friday night teen program begins tonight


Beginning tonight Monrovia's Summer Program and Opportunities for Teens, SPOT, will be held at Library Park Friday from 5 to 9:30 p.m., through Aug 8, offering grades 6–12 music, games, food, and a teen-only zone. The program's debut season cut youth disturbance calls from 41 to 7.

School District to consider new course - The Wildcat Way; Measure MM bond projects; Employee compensation

At its next meeting (agenda here) the Monrovia Board of Education will ...

~ Consider offering a new course called "The Wildcat Way" for ninth-grade students on how to succeed in high school and beyond. This course "promotes school pride, positive climate and culture, academic success, and personal development. Students will explore goal setting, time management, leadership, digital citizenship, emotional intelligence, and community building while actively participating in initiatives that lift school morale and foster unity." ~ Consider approving these labor agreements: For Administrative Management and Confidential employees ("confidential" employees are those with access to confidential information) a 3.75% pay increase retroactive to July 1, 2024 and increases in longevity payments to $2,000 for 15 years, $4,000 for 20 years, $6,000 for 25 years and $8,000 for 30 years.
