Dinner From Cafe LuMar

I like to eat dinner out, especially at pleasant little restaurants such as Cafe LuMar, on the south side of Colorado a half block east of Myrtle. But because of the Coronavirus we ordered and took our food home. I got the goulash for $18. Very tasty.

Lunch at Domenico’s

Lunch at Domenico’s, on the south side of Huntington just east of  Magnolia. Got the Soup and Salad Combo off the lunch menu for $8.99, plus I upgraded the salad to an antipasto for $2.95.  That and an iced tea for $2.95  Lots of meatballs in the minestrone. Very nice on a rainy day.

I’ve seen the following elsewhere but this is the first time in Monrovia: “We are a proud supporter of CA Living Wage Initiative; as a result a CA mandate surcharge is added to all guest checks.” The charge was $.96.

Lunch at Ikonicks

Lunch at the new Ikonicks Burgers, on the east side of Myrtle near Lime. Got “The Alpha,” a two slider meal for $9. I got the Greek lamb and the Dry-Aged Beef. Also a beer for $6. Very tasty.

Lunch at Burger Basket

Lunch at Burger Basket, at the corner of Duarte Road and Mayflower. Got the #1 Special, a cheeseburger, fries, and soft drink for $6.50 (cash only). Good meal for.a good price.

Lunch at Cafe on Lemon

Lunch at the new Cafe on Lemon (former Wang’s Place) on the south side of - you guessed it - Lemon, about a half block east of Myrtle. It’s a casual breakfast-lunch kinda place. Got the Greek Salad ($9.95) with chicken ($4) and a “#NoToxicEnergy” drink (a juice blend) for $5.85. Good.

Lunch at Cafe X20

Lunch at Cafe X20, on the north side of Foothill just west of Melrose.  Got the Chicken Shawerma Plate for $12 and a beer at a special half-off price of $3. Very good! Liked it a lot.

Dinner at 38 Degrees

Dinner at 38 Degrees, on the south side of Colorado about a half block east of Myrtle. Got the Pastrami with sides of kimchi and “beans and greens” for $17 and a beer for $7. Really excellent!

Dinner at T Phillips

Dinner at T Phillips, at the southwest corner of Myrtle and Colorado. Got the Buffalo Chicken Salad for $14 And a beer for $4.50.  Very good salad and great, prompt service.

Dinner at Diplomat

Dinner at The Diplomat, on the north side of Lemon just east of Myrtle. Got the Chicken Fattoush Salad for $14 and a beer for $5. Excellent!

Lunch at Nano Cafe

Lunch at Nano Cafe, at the corner of Mayflower and Duarte Road. Got the fried chicken off the lunch specials menu for $12.99 and an iced tea for $2.79.Came with a cup of soup (I got split pea), which was delicious, as was the rest of the meal

Lunch at Troy Donut and Burger

Lunch at Troy Donut and Burger, on the west side of Myrtle a block south of Duarte Road. Got the Pastrami Sandwich Combo with an iced tea for $8.49. Tasted fine.

Dinner at Rudy’s Mexican Food

Dinner at Rudy’s Mexican Food, at the corner of Myrtle and Colorado. Got a small Albondigas (meat ball) soup for $7.95 and an iced tea for $3.95. Very good and very pleasant service.

Dinner at Noodle St.

Dinner at Noodle St., in the Vons shopping center at Foothill and Myrtle. Got the Signature Beef Noodle Soup for $10.  Very nice.

Lunch at Los Gueros

Lunch at Los Gueros, on the north side of Huntington just west of Magnolia. Got the Seafood Soup for $15.95 and an iced tea for $2.95.  It was good.

Lunch at Hon Sushi


Lunch at Hon Sushi, in the Vons shopping center. Got the One-Item Lunch Special with chicken katsu and miso soup (not shown) for $9.50 and an iced tea for $2  It was all fresh and tasty and I was surprised that the single item option filled me up.

Lunch at 1776, on the east side of Myrtle just south of Lemon. Got the LA Dog for $10 and an iced tea for $2. The dog was bacon-wrapped, so delicious.

Lunch at Wok and Fire, in the shopping center at the southwest corner of Huntington and Magnolia. Got the Shrimp and Vegetable Soup for $5.98 and a drink for $1.29. A very generous portion of tasty soup at a very reasonable price.

Lunch at T Burger


Lunch at T Burger, on the south side of Foothill just east of Magnolia. Got the Chef Salad for $8.99 and an iced tea for $2.39. Nice salad. Fresh and tasty. I cut up the tomatoes and bell peppers a bit more to suit my style.

Lunch at Baja Mar FIsh Taco, at the corner of Foothill and May. Got the lunch special with two tacos (fish and pork) for $7.99, drink included. Good food; quick service.

Lunch at Cafe LuMar

Lunch at Cafe LuMar, south side of Colorado a half block east of Myrtle. Got the Chicken Chipotle pasta for $13.75 and an iced tea for $2.95. Really good! And though the restaurant was crowded the service was quick and pleasant.

Note: Someone asked me the other day if my restaurant reviews are paid for by the restaurant, aka "comped."

No. I've always paid. In fact, the restaurant folks don't even know I'm coming and probably don't even know I exist as I've never heard a word from a single restaurant anywhere in town.

It's true I never slam a restaurant but that's because I figure everybody can have a bad day. Also, I figure the photo and price information convey a lot of information, and I'm really not very picky so most restaurants will be at least okay with me, and on those rare occasions when I don't care for it I may simply make no comment on the food, or in super-rare cases, I just won't do a review (I think that's happened once).
