Lunch at Cafe LuMar

Lunch at Cafe LuMar, south side of Colorado a half block east of Myrtle. Got the Chicken Chipotle pasta for $13.75 and an iced tea for $2.95. Really good! And though the restaurant was crowded the service was quick and pleasant.

Note: Someone asked me the other day if my restaurant reviews are paid for by the restaurant, aka "comped."

No. I've always paid. In fact, the restaurant folks don't even know I'm coming and probably don't even know I exist as I've never heard a word from a single restaurant anywhere in town.

It's true I never slam a restaurant but that's because I figure everybody can have a bad day. Also, I figure the photo and price information convey a lot of information, and I'm really not very picky so most restaurants will be at least okay with me, and on those rare occasions when I don't care for it I may simply make no comment on the food, or in super-rare cases, I just won't do a review (I think that's happened once).

Dinner at Rudy’s

Dinner at Rudy’s Mexican Food, at Myrtle and Colorado. Decided to be adventurous so I got the Nopalitos con Puerco (cactus and pork) for $16.25 and a beer for $4.95. The cactus was good; not much taste, but that’s what the pork and sauce were for.

Dinner at Church’s Chicken

Dinner at Church’s Chicken at Huntington and Shamrock. Got the “3Pc Mixed” with a biscuit, fried okra as a side, and an iced tea for $8.79. Okay, keeping in mind that we’re not talking health food here, the chicken and iced tea were good, the okra was an experiment and was okay though I confess I’d probably get fries if I ordered it again. And good price.

Dinner at Monrovian

Dinner at the Monrovian, at the corner of Myrtle and Colorado. Got the Deep Fried Chicken for $12.99 and an iced tea for $2.69. It comes with soup or salad, which I ate so you can’t see it, and a potato, which I swapped out for cottage cheese. Very tasty and filling.

Just a few extra notes:

My wife likes that she can get fresh sliced turkey here. Most places, she said, give you lunch meat style turkey.

The restaurant is changing ownership but for now things seem the same, with a notice near the door saying, “The staff will remain! We will continue on as usual with the exception of some updates to the menu and restaurant.”
