Today's tree lighting ceremony and Christmas parade have been cancelled, due to rain. City Councilwoman Becky Shevlin reports that there is the "possibility of a smaller tree lighting ceremony next Wednesday evening."

  1. Is the parade not going to be rescheduled? This is really unfortunate. A lot of people in Monrovia and beyond put an excess of time, money, and energy into building floats and learning performances and routines. This is such a popular and unifying community event and presumably the money has already been spent. How incredibly wasteful. I would volunteer my time to make this happen at a later date and I'm sure a lot of other people would too.

  3. That is almost verbatim what I told the parade organizers for the city. I'm hoping it ends up being rescheduled as well. Our school put time, effort, and money into our float and our the kids from our Elementary school are rather disappointed as this community building event is a highlight of the year for everybody in our great city!

  5. in 2011 when the city was dealing with the clean up from the windstorm the Christmas parade was cancelled and rescheduled , I remember a year where it even rained during the parade, In future years the city should have a primary date and backup date.
